Painting Lord Melvyn Bragg in front of a live audience for the TV series, Sky Arts Portrait Artist of The Year.
Abby Hope Skinner was born in London, England in 1994. She is an emerging portrait and figurative painter, working primarily in oil.
Being of mixed heritage and having moved to Cyprus at the age of eight, Abby expresses a fascination with themes of identity, appearance versus reality and self-portraiture.
She often uses herself as a model in her work to interpret archetypal characters from literature, poetry and fairy tales.
To create her portraits, Abby studies the techniques of the Old Masters, employing them in a modern and contemporary way.
She has been exhibited in galleries such as Emplo Gallery in Paphos and the Darren Baker Gallery in London.
In 2016, Abby gained a BA (Hons) Degree in Illustration at the Arts University Bournemouth. Her studies in Illustration have helped to develop her use of narrative, story telling, and the interpretation of literature within her work.
Her awards include Highest Mark in the World for Cambridge International Examinations ‘A’ Level Art and Design and Best in Show at the Arts University Bournemouth Foundation Summer Show.
In 2014, Abby appeared on the popular TV series, Sky Arts Portrait Artist of The Year. She was selected by Lord Melvyn Bragg as his winner of the London Heats.
She currently divides her time between Cyprus and the U.K. fulfilling portrait commissions and creating new works for her collectors.
